Richard A. Reck


Richard A. Reck is the founder and President of Business Strategy Advisors LLC (BSA), a business strategy consultancy that focuses on serving software, IT services, and information services companies.

He is a licensed Certified Public Accountant and had been a partner with KPMG LLP, a Big Four CPA firm, for nearly 30 years. Over the years, he had a variety of significant KPMG responsibilities, including:

Mr. Reck is a member of the boards of directors of the Tribune Publishing Company) (TRCO), a public journalistic media company that publishes 150 newspapers throughout the United States where he Chairs the Compensation, Nominating, and Governance Committee and serves on the Audit Committee; SilkRoad Technology, Inc., a venture capital backed cloud-based human resources software company, where he serves as Chair of the Audit Committee; and Ultra Consultants, a private IT services company that offers middle-market and larger companies independent ERP selection and implementation, BPI, and other IT consulting services.

He formerly has been a member of the board of directors of Merge Technologies (MRGE), a public health care software and information company that was sold in October 2015 for $1 Billion to IBM; Greenbrier & Russel, a private IT services company with 500 employees and offices in 8 cities across the United States where he served as Chairman and the company was sold to Fujitsu; Advanced Life Sciences (ADLS), a public biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery, development, and commercialization of novel drugs in the areas of infectious disease, inflammation, and oncology where he served as Audit Committee Chair; Interactive Intelligence (ININ), a public communications software company that provides contact center and IP telephony products and services where he served on the Audit and the Compensation Committees which was sold to Genesys Telecommunications Laboratories for $1.6 Billion in December, 2016; LiquidGeneration, a private internet media company; and Sivox Technologies, a private call center agent quality and training software company which was merged with Bankers Edge. He is also a board member of the Illinois Fatherhood Initiative and a board member emeritus of the Illinois IT Association and which are not-for-profit corporations.

Mr. Reck received a bachelor of arts degree in mathematics from DePauw University and an MBA from the University of Michigan. Prior to joining KPMG, Mr. Reck was a systems analyst/programmer in management information systems for two large NYSE companies. He is a certified public accountant in the states of Michigan and Illinois and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Illinois CPA Society. He has served as Chairman of the Illinois Software Association and is the founder of the Software Financial Executives Forum. He has been listed in "Who's Who In The Computer Industry," as one of Crain’s Chicago Business “Chicago’s 100 Most Influential Technology Players,” in Crain’s “Who’s Who of Chicago Business,” and listed among the top 100 people of Chicago’s high tech economy by I-Street.

He has been a frequent speaker on technical and financial issues involving accounting, auditing, financings and public offerings, mergers & acquisitions, and strategy throughout the United States and Canada for the SIIA, ITAA, YPO, WPO, CLA, ICPAS, and other professional and trade associations.
